Hey everyone, it's Josh Race here, and today I want to talk about something that I think a lot of us creative technologists struggle with: fear. Specifically, the fear that creeps in when we're exploring something new and complex, like the world of Web3.
Now, I'm no stranger to Web3. I'm an NFT collector, I play around with blockchain storage solutions like IPFS – the InterPlanetary File System – and I'm always eager to dive deeper into this exciting space. But even with my experience, I still find myself battling that inner voice of doubt whenever I encounter a new technical challenge.
It's like this internal tug-of-war. On one side, there's my inner judge, screaming, "You can't do this! You not an engineer! Your brain isn’t up to this!" And on the other side, there's my inner sage, gently reminding me, "You don't know this yet. But you're capable of learning. You've overcome challenges like this before."
And in the midst of this mental battle, I find myself evaluating my own learning abilities. Can I really grasp these complex concepts? Do I have the time and energy to invest in mastering this new technology? It's a constant process of self-assessment and, trying to discern what’s just the big bad judge.
But here's the thing I've realized: this fear is normal. This process of self assessment needs to be considered part of the creative process. And getting mad and impatient bumps you out of the creative flow. So you have to take a break and come back to evaluating it again after being in a calmer state of mind.
The Fear is Normal, giving up just because you think you can’t and feeling tired from it is optional. Take a break and come back. Step outside of our comfort zones and explore the unknown with ease and flow. The more we confront this fear, the more we realize that we're capable of so much more than we think.
Free yourself from overthinking. Learn discernment with clarity and ease.
